A huge thanks to all who have already sent in an objection to Angus Council regarding the proposed new substation at Tealing.

We know many of you are also composing your objection just now.

There is however another body who can take your objection forward: your community council. Community councils have a responsibility to take their residents’ concerns to the council. Their representation carries weight. However, community councils need to know your concerns. We would urge everyone to contact their community council and have constructed a template letter to send. (Please see below)

The following link may help you find your community council if you are unsure as to who they are. https://www.angus.gov.uk/.../com.../about_community_councils

TEMPLATE LETTER TO YOUR COMMUNITY COUNCIL

I am writing to you as my Community Council asking you to support my objection to Angus Council regarding the new substation proposed at Balkemback Farm, Tealing: Planning application 24/00699/FULN

I am concerned that:

1. This new substation will help facilitate further electrical infrastructure including a new route of OHLs as part of the TKUP (which will go to planning next year via the ECU) which would impact on our community council area, increasingly industrialising the area.

2. I am concerned that this development (and any subsequent development resulting from the substation should it be approved) would impact on agricultural land, tourism, landscape, wildlife and biodiversity. The impact to local residents regarding noise in operation and construction is considerable. I am concerned about pollution from construction vehicles.

3. I believe that the proposals are contrary to Angus Council’s Local Development Plan and the NPF4.

The premise of protecting Angus for present and future residents is stated in the LDP and referred to again in the NPF4: “The natural, built and cultural heritage of Angus underpins the character of the area and the quality of life for its residents. It provides opportunity for economic and leisure activity, which brings with it the responsibility to protect these assets for current and future generations. New development can and should help to support our heritage, maintaining its relevance and purpose through time. Opportunity exists to enhance the built, cultural and natural environment, putting right past errors and creating a better place for future generations”

4. The local community will not benefit from any of this energy as it is destined for outwith Angus and even beyond the UK. Local socio-economic benefits are also mentioned in the documentation as benefitting an area far exceeding the community hosting such infrastructure, and in reality will bring benefits to the urban rather than rural areas.

I would be most grateful if you would represent my objection.

Kind regards
